In September 2016, Amy Lee shifted from the transcendental rock of Evanescence to release her soft and soulful Amazon Music Original “Dream Too Much”. Amy Lee’s “Dream Too Much” is the musical child of Evanescence reflecting the gentleness and innocence of youth and bringing a tender smile to those who listen. In December 2016, the Amazon Music Original longform stop-motion animation video for “Dream Too Much” was released. This cute video tells the story of the album through the lulling eyes of insects, birds, and other creatures. Now, in May 2017, we are excited to share our #8isEnoughQuestions with the incredibly talented Amy Lee!
For this #8isEnoughQuestions interview, each question was written and asked by one of our Full Van Fun family members and answered directly by Amy Lee. Enjoy!
1. How did recording songs with your family for your new album “Dream Too Much” differ from your previous studio experiences?
Well, usually time in the studio is time away from family, so this was a really special way to be together and work together. It was fun, we made some great memories. It was really cool to capture pro recordings of all of us singing and playing together. We usually jam when we all get together, and we’re all creative, so to have something we love to show for it, and to be able to share it, makes us all very proud.
2. What times of the day do you best like to sing?
Night! I like to get far away from that morning grog. But I sing all the time.
3. Most people know you from Evanescence, but what type of music do you sing to your son?
All kinds, my music included. Right now Jack’s favorite songs are Frosty the Snowman and Barbara Ann by the Beach Boys. We had a good, loud, obnoxious fam-jam of Barbara Ann in mom and dad’s garage this Christmas with Dad on drums while Jack ran in circles.
4. What is your favorite song or color?
Its really hard to pick one favorite of either of those things! But for today I’ll go with Freedom by George Michael and neon green.
5. Can you please make louder songs?
Have you checked the volume level on your speakers? Are the subs on? And check out the self titled Evanescence record, it doesn’t get much louder than that.
6. Is there actually no way you can dream too much?
Not in my book!
7. How do you think making music and/or listening to music together impacts a family?
I think music is food for the soul, and its good for you at every age. I prefer listening to music together to watching TV, because you can still talk and engage one another. Jack loves playing with his toys and dancing around the house listening to music. We do that a LOT!
8. Do you like the Cat in the Hat?
I love everything Dr. Seuss! He inspires boundless imagination.
